Which AI Writing Tool Is Actually Worth Your Time?
I Tried All the AI Writing Tools So You Don’t Have To

Let’s be real—there are too many AI tools out there and too many people pretending they’re all equally “life-changing.”
Spoiler: They’re not.
Some are great.
Some are… high-maintenance weirdos.
And some are straight-up banned depending on where you live.
Here’s what I’ve learned from testing the main players.
🧠 ChatGPT (GPT-4o)
Best for: Everything I do on a daily basis
My go-to. My main. My writing partner.
I use it for outlines, brainstorming, editing, newsletter drafts, and just talking things through when I’m stuck.
It’s structured, intuitive, and great at adapting to my voice.
If I had to delete every other AI tool, ChatGPT would be the one I keep.
🧠 Claude 3 (Anthropic)
Best for: Writing that sounds deeply human (especially dialogue)
Claude has this soulful quality to it.
If you write fiction, essays, or dialogue-heavy content—it’s brilliant.
Its responses feel more emotional, nuanced, and conversational than most tools.
When I need softness, empathy, or tone that doesn’t scream “robot,” Claude delivers.
🧑🚀 Character.AI
Best for: Creative play + fictional worldbuilding
Want to roleplay with a character you invented? Interview your main character? Or write banter scenes?
Character.AI is chaotic good energy.
It’s not a serious tool for final drafts, but for getting into the vibe of a story or voice—it’s kind of amazing.
🧪 DeepSeek
Best for: Writers who are tech-savvy or multilingual
DeepSeek is powerful and open-source—but there’s a catch.
It’s blocked in many countries, and not the easiest tool to set up.
If you’re writing in multiple languages or want to tinker with fine-tuning, it might be worth exploring.
Otherwise? You’re not missing much if you skip it for now.
🧯 Gemini / Grok
Best for: …I’m still figuring that out
Look, I’ve tried.
Gemini is good in theory—especially for research—but it often feels like it needs a 10-step prompt to get anything usable.
Grok? Let’s just say I’ve opened it, nodded politely, and gone back to ChatGPT.
Moral of the story?
Every tool has its moment—but not every tool deserves your time.
Find your favorites, learn what they’re best at, and don’t be afraid to mix and match.
⚙️ My AI Stack (Right Now)
ChatGPT: Everything from newsletter writing to idea generation
Claude: Emotion-rich writing + dialogue
Character.AI: Vibe checks + creative banter
Gemini: Occasionally… when I feel like babysitting an AI
📬 Want a Tool Breakdown Guide?
I’m thinking of making a quick comparison sheet for writers to know exactly which AI to use (and when).
If you’d want that, click here to vote yes.
Until next week,
